A.C.A. ACCREDITATION IS YOUR ASSURANCE OF QUALITY CAMPING

Staff

The Camp Challenge Board of Directors has selected an outstanding staff of qualified personnel with experience in the outdoors and camping. Our staff are all students or adults who have a special interest in your child.  Some of the staff are former campers who graduated into counselors and administrators.  This gives the younger campers hope when they see the cancer survivors at camp.

Health and Safety

The camper's general well-being is the prime concern of the entire staff. Health standards and accident prevention are built into the program. We operate under stringent safety rules set by the Camp Challenge Board and abide by all parish and state laws and regulations.

A physician and two nurses will be on the campsite 24 hours a day. Hospitals are on call. In case of serious illnesses or accident, parents will be notified.  Children have received Chemotherapy at camp in the past.  The nurses enjoy attending camp, it allows them to see the children outside the hospital environment.

Food

Ample, well-balanced meals are planned by a dietitian and served in the dining hall. This includes daily snacks and desserts. Send no food or drink please. This attracts rodents and ants. If you insist on sending snacks, please send enough for the entire camp.

Units

Children of comparable age are organized into groups living in cabins. The unit counselors are housed in close proximity to the campers. The 6-8 year old campers will have counselors in their cabins. Some program activities will be pre-planned. Others will be planned by the campers and their counselors.

Pee-Wee Campers (Ages 4 and 5)

Enjoy one day at camp with your parents and the Camp Challenge Kids. You'll play in the pool, have a nice lunch, and make something to take home with you.

Counselors-In-Training (C.I.T.'S) (Ages 15-17)

Be a role model to younger campers and enjoy some special privileges. You'll have great fun as you learn advanced camp craft skills, organize camp activities, assist at all-camps, and learn about camp administration.  C.I.T.'s help assist counselors, help set up the dinning hall for meals, and what ever else needs to be done, while still having time to be a camper and play.
